Prof. Panos Drakopoulos holds a B.Sc. degree in Physics from University of Athens (1981), and M.Sc. (1984) and Ph.D.(1987) degrees in Physics (Optics) from University of Manitoba. He has been employed as a Canadian Government Laboratory Visiting Fellow at Royal Roads Military College in Victoria BC (1987-1990) and as a Research Associate at University of Athens, University of Edinburgh (EU fellowship) and Institute of Marine Biology of Crete (1990-2001). During that period he also taught at undergraduate and graduate levels at Technical University of Crete (Department of Environmental Engineering) and University of Crete (Department of Biology). Scince 2001 he is a faculty member (Professor) at the Division of Optics and Optometry, Department of Biomedical Sciences, University of West Attica and teaches on the subjects of Optical Instruments, Visual Optics and Environmental Lighting.
He has participated in more than 30 funded EU and National research projects (in 10 of them as scientific responsible). His research interests include, among others, underwater visibility – marine optics, development and calibration of optical instruments, and field spectroscopy. He is author and co-author of more than 100 refereed publications and 3 University level textbooks.
He is a member of the Optical Society of America (OSA) and the European Academy of Optometry and Optics (EAOO).
